Common problems

My progress disappeared

On Android, saves live on that one device. There is no cloud sync, so uninstalling the app removes the save and it cannot be recovered. Clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings does the same thing.

On iPhone and iPad, first check whether you are signed in to iCloud on this device. iCloud sync is optional, so if it is switched off, or you are signed into a different Apple Account, the game will not find your save.

  • Open Settings, tap your name at the top, and confirm you are signed in to the same Apple Account you played on before.
  • Check that iCloud Drive is on for Captain Cluck under Settings → Apple Account → iCloud.
  • Open the game and leave it on the home screen for a few seconds with a working connection. Syncing happens in the background and isn’t instant.

If iCloud was switched off when you played, the save exists only on that one device. To free up space without losing it, use Offload App rather than Delete App.

There’s no sound

Work through these in order:

  1. Tap Settings on the home screen and check that Sound FX is turned on.
  2. On iPhone, check the silent switch on the side of the phone. On Android, check that the media volume — not the ringer volume — is up.
  3. Turn the volume up while the game is open, so you are adjusting media volume.
  4. Check whether Bluetooth headphones or a speaker are still connected somewhere else in the house.

Worth knowing: music and sound effects are separate toggles, and music starts off. If you want background music, switch it on in Settings.

The game is too hard, or too easy

Change the difficulty from the home screen. You can switch any time and nothing is lost.

  • Easy: slower pace, more food, gentler bosses, and you cannot lose a level. Right for most players under eight.
  • Normal: the standard game.
  • Hero: longer levels and much tougher bosses. Hard enough to frustrate adults.

If one boss is the wall, drop to Easy for that fight and switch back afterward. That works fine.

The screen layout looks wrong or things are cut off

Try switching between portrait and landscape using the Screen toggle in Settings. The two modes have completely separate layouts. If something is still clipped, email me a screenshot and your device model. Those reports get fixed fastest.

The game crashes or freezes

Force-quit and reopen first. On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom, pause in the middle, then swipe the Captain Cluck card away. On Android, use the recent-apps button and swipe it away. If it keeps happening, restart the device and check for a system update.

Still crashing? Email me your device model, operating system version and roughly what you were doing when it happened. A description from you is far more useful than anything else I can get.

Can I turn the sound effects off?

Yes. Settings, then Sound FX off. The game plays fine silently, and you can leave the music on.

The text is too small to read

Settings has a Larger Text toggle that scales up the labels throughout the game.

How do I delete everything the game has stored?

Deleting the app removes the copy on that device. On iPhone and iPad, if you use iCloud sync, a copy also sits in your own iCloud account — to clear that too, go to Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Account Storage and remove the app’s data. Either way, none of it is ever stored on our side.

Still stuck? Get in touch

If none of the above sorted it, or you have found a bug, write to [email protected]. It is a small operation, so replies usually take a couple of business days.

Bug reports genuinely do get fixed. The useful ones include:

Accessibility

The game supports larger text, a colour-blind-safe cue on hazards, and toggles for sound, music and haptics. On iPhone and iPad the menus, map and shop are labelled for VoiceOver.

If something is hard to use, that is worth an email. Accessibility reports go to the front of the queue.
